NCR sought a space efficient point of sale terminal that would be suitable for a range of business environments, from filling stations to premier restaurants.
Informed + Collaborative
Formation worked closely with NCR’s internal product managers and engineering team to research and develop a scalable, space efficient product platform. Based on contextual research, the system was designed to grow through the addition of accessories. The base terminal can more than double in size when fully populated with accessory components. Terminals had to appear integrated and balanced in their base configuration and when fully accessorized. In addition to this configuration flexibility a new aesthetic language suitable for a broad range of potential venues was created. The 30 Series looks at home everywhere - from filling stations to premium restaurants.
UX Driven Configuration Flexibility
NCR’s 30 Series point of sale terminal system was designed for commercial use in restaurants, convenience stores and other customer facing retail applications. The 30 Series maximizes platform flexibility while facilitating retail transactions and enabling a more customer focused experience
A 360° Product Platform
By considering the entire platform at the outset of the project the design team was able to design for a broad range of applications and implementations. The 30 Series is a true 360° product platform intended to be approached from all sides. It appears integrated, balanced and intentional across a multitude of potential configurations.
Usability was an principal consideration. Terminals can be used simultaneously by retail service personal and customers. With the system’s compact footprint it was important to ensure that both users had glare free views of displays and unimpeded access to card readers and scanners.

The NCR 30 Series offers owner flexibility, a customer focused experience, and a strong visual language that translates universally across retail.
