The Siemens Symbia SPECT-CT imaging system is the first of its kind to combine dynamic nuclear imaging with the rich detail of computed tomography. Merging what had been stand alone imaging modalities required a thorough understanding of use cases, work flows and the expectations of clinicians. Formation worked closely with partner hospitals and Siemens in-house development team to understand clinical procedures.
Using this research as a basis, Formation addressed the diverse needs of the device’s three primary user groups. For patients, we created a non-threatening and physically comfortable experience. For medical technicians, the focus was on reducing steps and streamlining common procedures. For installation and service personnel, the goal was to provide simple modular construction that facilitated diagnostics and service access. The design of the Symbia system was recognized with an iF Product Design Award and an IDEA Award.
